In case any of you haven’t already guessed, I have been spending a lot of time on the water lately, which is why I haven’t had as much time to work on Sweet Water Trolling. It’s been a good start to the year so far and I’ve had the pleasure of fishing a good number of people I haven’t fished with previously.
April 2021
- I had the distinct pleasure of participating in the Chasing Fins Veterans Tournament. Veteran Caleb Henry joined us on Sweet Water Trolling. It was a tough day of fishing and we only managed 3 small fish. However, it was a good time and Caleb won a charter trip with Our Leg-A-Sea Charters for the smallest fish caught.
- As a result of the Chasing Fins Veterans Tournament, I met Fred Cartier. A couple weeks later, Fred Cartier from the Lake Buzzard invited my son and I to join him for the Brown Blast Tournament put on by Clear H2O Tackle. It was a good day and had a lot fun. We managed 16 for 21 fish that day and took fourth place in the tournament.
- The following weekend I fished on my boat, Sweet Water Trolling, with Jeremy Webber of Reel Tite Charter and long time friends Tim Wyatt and Dan Lundgren. We had to work for our fish that day but finished with 8 in the boat. It was great having Jeremie on board. I really appreciate all the knowledge he shared with us that day.
May 2021
- On May 15th, I had the pleasure of fishing with Chris and Pepper Inman of Our Leg-A-Sea Charters. My ex-wife won a trip from them and I was able to join them for the day. It was a lot of fun getting to work on a boat that big and being able to run that many lines. I really appreciate that Chris let me help run lines and was very patient with me when I boogered something up. Chris and Pepper’s have a great boat and their hospitality was top notch. We finished the day with 10 fish that day. Definitely check them out if you’re looking for a great fishing charter experience.
- Most recently, Memorial Day weekend, I fished with Joe Delisi on his boat Wonder. Joe and I had a fantastic couple of days with a 2 man limit both days. It was great being able to put together a pattern and make it work. I still can’t believe how well we did this past weekend. I’ve never managed back to back limits before.
Summary
This year I have started keeping captains log. Here is a running tally. So far this year I have been out on the water 13 times. From those 13 trips:
- 79 fish have been boated
- 1 brown trout
- 34 coho
- 13 king
- 24 laker
- 7 steelhead
- biggest fish 18.9 lbs
- smallest fish – (I am too embarrassed to admit its weight) let’s just say it was small enough to win Caleb a charter trip.
- Best lures so far: In first place – Silver Streak Smurf Spoon has put 17 fish in the boat and in 2nd place – GRC Trolling Flies Smurf fly (my custom fly) has put 15 fish in the boat.
